Our client is a leading food and animal nutrition organization with a fast-growing pet food business and a strong commitment to product innovation, quality, and international standards. The company is seeking an R&D Director to lead innovation across its pet food product portfolio and support continued growth in both branded and OEM/private-label channels.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior R&D leader with strong technical expertise in pet nutrition, food science, and product development. The role will oversee a team of nutrition and packaging professionals, drive new product development, manage technical trials, and ensure that formulations meet commercial, regulatory, and quality requirements.
Responsibilities- Lead new product development for premium, functional, and therapeutic pet food products across branded and OEM/private-label portfolios.
- Develop scalable and commercially viable formulations that balance nutrition, quality, cost, manufacturability, and market requirements.
- Oversee laboratory research, pilot plant testing, shelf-life verification, palatability trials, and product validation activities.
- Provide technical leadership for dry kibble extrusion, wet food retort processing, ingredient selection, and recipe adaptation.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, supply chain, quality, regulatory, marketing, and commercial teams to bring products to market efficiently.
- Drive value engineering initiatives to optimize formulation cost and protect margins while maintaining nutritional value and product quality.
- Ensure product formulations comply with local and international standards, including DLD, AAFCO, FEDIAF, HACCP, GMP, and FSSC 22000.
- Lead, coach, and develop the R&D team while building strong cross-functional collaboration across the business.
Requirements- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Animal Science, Food Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biochemistry, Animal Nutrition, or a related field.
- At least 10 years of progressive R&D, product development, or innovation experience within pet food, FMCG food, beverage, or related manufacturing industries.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a senior managerial or director-level role with team leadership responsibility.
- Strong technical knowledge of companion animal nutrition, production technology, ingredient functionality, extrusion, retort processing, and food safety systems.
- Good understanding of manufacturing, supply chain, commercialization processes, and regulatory requirements in the pet food or food manufacturing industry.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to manage innovation pipelines, launch timelines, COGS targets, and cross-functional priorities.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder management skills with the ability to motivate teams.
- Professional proficiency in Thai and English.
